Who is KAT? In short, she’s tall and loves fashion. Read on for a 60-second convo with the woman who’s allergic to real cats but uses the moniker as her super-sassy nickname.

Q: So, what prompted you to start katclothing.com?
KAT:  Let’s face it, the trendy tall clothing options out there are pretty sparse. And, there’s this assumption that if you’re tall, Janet Reno must be your fashion idol. So, I started asking manufacturers to custom-create trendy tall clothing.

Q: Why no shirts on the site?
KAT: We’re taking the bottoms-up approach. (And, no, I don’t mean the college drinking game.)  My research showed tall women have the hardest time finding pants, denim, shoes and skirts. Tall women spoke. We listened.

Q: What’s your personal style?
KAT: Somewhere between cool cat and hellcat. But never TomKat.

Q: What piece of clothing can’t you live without?
KAT: I heart shoes. Especially the kind you can’t wear with everything. Wearing a size 14, though, you can’t always find a cute pair. Everything is brown or black with a big square toe. Come on, I’m a tall woman, not a nun.

Q: Biggest tall pet peeve?
KAT: I have two: First, when fabulous tall women slouch. Are you kidding me? Head up. Shoulders back. Embrace it, baby. Second, when strangers comment on how “big” I am. Rule No. 1: Never call a diva “big” unless it’s followed by “spender,” “wig” or “wheel.”

Q: Why should ladies shop at katclothing.com?
KAT: Because tall chicks should be able to participate in fashion trends, too. Growing up, I missed out on a lot because trendy styles weren’t long enough. Hammer pants were the closest I came to being en vogue. (Yes, as in the esteemed ‘80s rap sensation, MC Hammer.) Once I put them on, I never took them off – not even for my Catholic confirmation. There I was, Hammer-timing it all the way down the aisle of Holy Cross Church…sigh. Anyway, the point is, I’ve always been a fashion spectator. Never a participant. Until now.
